It's my new Samsung MP3 player.


I picked it over an Ipod for a couple of key reasons....

1) Size. Duh. The thing's like half the size of a pack of gum. I have this tiny pouch that is for a golf rangefinder and it holds the player, one of the data cables, headphones, an adapter, and a spare battery... and that whole deal is only as big as my cell phone.

2) It runs on a single AAA battery (40 hours of playback time). I have a pair of rechargable Energizers, but if it went dead anywhere, I could just pop in an alkaline.

3) FM tuner. Works suprisingly well if I ever want to listen to something other than one of the MP3s.

4) It can only hold about 9 hours of music... but it can double as a portable USB flash drive to share other files between computers. Handy for work, I'd just dump a few songs if I had to and reload them later.

5) All this for about 1/2 to 1/3 the cost of a bulkier proprietary ipod.

Oh... I almost forgot.

6) It has a built in voice recorder and MP3 encoder to record MP3s with either the built in mic or by patching in from the headphone jack of any other music device.

I've been looking for an alternative to an iPod (goddamn things are outrageously overpriced [img]mad.gif[/img] ). Is it compatible with iTunes?

I remember that during the 70's there was this small european car that had one of the first detachable radios. It was almost like that size. You could hear your music in the car, take out to hear with headphones and also buy a docking station with speakers for your home. Maybe this idea will come back again......

Hmm... I'll have to look for that option and turn it off.

I like itunes for downloading purchased songs, but I don't have it manage my main MP3 folder.

If I was going to get a jukebox type, I'd get the Rio Graphite. It's super thin with a 6 gig microdrive. Between my PDA, my Digital Camera, and my Nextel, I don't need another piece of gear to lug around.

Besides, it's only a matter of time before our cell phone will have a PDA, a 20 gig mp3 player, and a 5 megapixel digital camera built in so we only have to carry one device. [img]wink.gif[/img]
